HR & Culture Leader
Washworld, Inc., a leader in the design and manufacture of automatic vehicle wash equipment, has been in business for over 25 years and is known for our outstanding products and excellent customer support, which is possible by dedicated owners and awesome people! Since our inception, Washworld has experienced explosive growth, but we still strive to maintain the customer focused culture on which we were founded.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Initially, your focus will be building on our existing hiring, onboarding, retention, and systems—making sure they run smoothly and consistently. Once those foundations are in place, you'll work side-by-side with the COO to shape the next phase of growth—building culture, developing leaders, and evolving how we operate. If you’re energized by progress, growth and ownership, you’ll fit right in.
WHO YOU ARE
- Ownership Mindset: You take full responsibility for the systems you lead. You don't wait—you take initiative and make things happen. When things go sideways, people look to you.
- A Relentless, Figure-It-Out Learner: You learn fast and adapt quickly. You move from ambiguity to clarity and make things work without waiting for perfect conditions.
- A High-Tempo Operator: You move fast, solve problems, and don’t let obstacles slow you down.
- A Builder of Clarity & Structure: You focus on getting the right systems and structures in place so people know what to expect, feel supported, and can do their best work. You're practical, steady under pressure, and bring order to complexity.
- People-First & Organizationally Aware: You are always considering the people at the center of the work. You understand how individuals, teams, and systems connect—and use that insight to influence outcomes and support meaningful change.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
We’re building something great, and your mission is clear. In your first 3 months, success means:
- Hiring & Onboarding: You’ve completely owned and built on our current processes to fill key roles quickly and effectively, with a smooth onboarding experience that gets new hires ramped up fast—and they stick.
- Culture & Retention: You’ve focused on retention by leading wage and benefits analysis to ensure we stay competitive, supporting managers in tough conversations, and proactively identifying ways to keep our team engaged and committed long term. You are also the key go-to person for crisis management, compliance, and any legal HR issues that arise, providing stability and guidance in critical moments.
- HR Systems & Compliance: You’ve streamlined our HR processes (policies, compliance, record-keeping) so they’re clear, reliable, and up to date—without slowing anyone down.
PATHWAY FOR GROWTH & IMPACT
This role is intended to quickly grow into a true culture-shaping leadership seat. As you gain traction, your next
phase will be to:
- Deepen your partnership with the COO to shape long-term company culture and team development.
- Lead manager training, coaching, and leadership development programs that raise the bar across the organization.
- Guide change management initiatives as we evolve, helping teams navigate growth and transformation smoothly.
- Strengthen employee engagement strategies and recognition programs that foster loyalty and performance.
- Help us stay current and forward-thinking by evaluating and introducing HR best practices that fit our unique culture.
SUPPORT
You’ll be backed by a very passionate and committed part-time HR team member who currently manages many day-to-day HR functions— like screening calls for job applicants, scheduling interviews, onboarding new team members and keeping a pulse on our culture. Some accounting-related HR responsibilities—such as payroll, vacation tracking, benefits documentation, and workers' compensation—will continue to be handled by our Controller, given their close connection to accounting and compliance. Both of these awesome team members will assist you as you get up to speed in your role.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strongly preferred: Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Management, or related field.
- 5–10 years of proven success in recruiting, onboarding, compliance, and culture-building in small to mid-sized companies.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Comfortable working independently and driving initiatives forward.
